GreenGo... Digital intercom and cueing over Ethernet for live events

Red for warn, green for go. Most live event cueing systems currently used in theatres, opera houses and for concerts rely on separate networks of discrete wiring or dedicated data networks and proprietary protocols, sometimes with complex and expensive central management equipment. GreenGo is an all-new communication system that simply plugs into any available Ethernet network.

ELC has been at the forefront of lighting data networking for over fifteen years, supplying theatres, TV studios, opera houses and touring events with Ethernet and DMX data networks. ELC networks are renowned for their capacity, speed and reliability – all vital in large-scale live events with hundreds of DMX universes used for automated lighting and video walls.

ELC developed GreenGo to meet the market demands for a simple economic intercom to work with any Ethernet network, with the option for cue lights and text messaging. The compact GreenGo beltpack and wall panel outstations can be used on any Ethernet network with Power over Ethernet capability – not just a specific lighting network. Once set up (using software on a PC or Mac) each beltpack or wall panel holds operational data locally, which means that a centralised command and switching unit is not needed. Pre-set call groups can be accessed at the press of a button.

To utilise the optional cueing features of GreenGo (cue lights with accept and text messaging) a stand-alone ‘stage managers’ multichannel desk and PC (or Mac) may be added anywhere on the same network. Available in 8, 16 and 32 channels, the GreenGo multichannel desk provides direct voice and cuelight signalling to any outstation and manages text messaging.

The key to reliability and clarity is a combination of low latency and bandwidth, which is easily accommodated by the same Ethernet network that is running the vast lighting and display systems in real time. And because the designers at ELC are experts in high-capacity data transmission networks for the largest lighting networks in use today, they know how to integrate real-time communications without any risk of network degradation.

The GreenGo Communications range will be launched at PLASA 2011 on the ELC stand, Earl’s Court 2, S15.

It was founded in 1994 by Joost van Eenbergen, who worked on many live events and saw an opportunity to use this experience in the design and manufacture of lighting products for the theatre, concert, TV and live events industry in general. His development team is still closely involved in live events, and all ELC products are developed and tested ‘in the field’. It’s Green for Go at PLASA as lighting and comms networks get intimate on the ELC stand.

With a worldwide reputation for the best in Ethernet and DMX data networking products for lighting and LED wall systems, Netherlands-based ELC Lighting has extended its range of add-ons to include digital communications and cuelights over Ethernet. Stand 2-S15 at PLASA 2011 will be the launchpad for GreenGo, an innovative digital communications system with outstations that are simple to use and connect into any Ethernet network.

GreenGo provides high quality digital voice communications, and optional text messages and cue lights, simply by connecting beltpacks and wall-mounted outstations anywhere on the Ethernet network. For basic voice comms, just a set of beltpacks are needed – an expensive central matrix unit and separate power supplies are not required – as all the data settings are stored in each beltpack, which is powered via the network delivering standard PoE (Power over Ethernet). To make use of GreenGo’s full capabilities (cue lights with accept, text messaging) a stand-alone ‘stage managers’ multichannel desk may be added anywhere on the same network with an associated PC/Mac. Available in 8, 16 and 32 channels, the GreenGo multichannel desk provides direct voice and cuelight access to any outstation, and routes text messages from a computer.

ELC’s wide range of networking products will also be demonstrated at PLASA, including Ethernet switches and DMX/Ethernet Nodes, DMX management and add-on lighting controls.
