ELC Lighting and Green-GO Communications are heading to LDI Las Vegas

Networking specialists ELC Lighting and Green-GO Communications will be presenting developments to their product ranges at LDI, in conjunction with StageLight, on booth 321 from the 22nd to 24th November at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada.

New software from ELC, derived from continuing experience gained through working on live events, is now available as dmXLAN v4. This completely revised freeware program for Windows and OSX recognizes that managing the Ethernet network on live events has become a specialist role within the technical team in recent years. ELC’s software engineers often freelance on shows where they take responsibility for maintaining the integrity of data networks that distribute data for lighting, automation, LED screen and communications to distributed areas of the rig and dmXLAN v4 is the tool designed to do that job. Version 4 of the program has a new user interface and builds on the core network overview and remote setup of Ethernet switches and lighting components. New features include a full implementation of RDM, multi-universe merging (three universes may be merged on each DMX output port, and re-transmitted as a single universe), merged universe can be programmed as a full softpatch for each channel, merge functions such as a soft changeover between desks or a media server can be controlled by a DMX channel. Another great feature is that dmXLAN v4 can be remotely controlled and monitored via a web browser on a smartphone. PLASA’s Lori Rubinstein has informed ELC Lighting that the dmXLAN v4 Software is one of just eight finalists in the sixth annual “Rock Our World Awards”, to be presented at the PLASA Cocktail & Awards Reception at LDI 2013. The Rock Our World Awards were created to honor ground-breaking achievement by PLASA members and to acknowledge the genius of both the creator of the technology and the designer or integrator who applies it in a real world environment. Winners will be selected by a panel of industry judges and be announced at the PLASA Cocktail & Awards reception on Thursday, 21 November from 5:30-7:30pm at the Las Vegas Hotel during LDI 2013.

Joining the now established Ethernet networks for entertainment systems, ELC Lighting will debut a new and faster switch component. The new Switch8GB forms the backbone of the network distribution system. With 8 ports Local Area Networks have speeds of 10/100/1000 GB, plus a fiber optic option is introduced on ports 7 and 8. Thanks to the multiple back up loop feature there is fast recovery of back up data in the event of a cable problem. Another smart feature that is sure to be appreciated is the ability for each Ethernet port to be easily assigned to different VLAN networks, for example keeping lighting control networks separate to audio networks. The Switch8GB is totally compatible with ELC’s dmXLANv4 system management software.

Also featuring at LDI 2013 will be the much applauded, award winning Green-GO communications system, Offering many of the features only previously available in expensive matrix systems, Green-GO is a cost effective solution embracing intercom, cue light, show relay and text messaging that is scalable from just two users to more than 3,000! Green-GO offers a digital intercom system over Ethernet with 32 full duplex channels and no requirement for the expense of a master station or central matrix, as matrix information resides in each single unit, belt pack or wall station. There are savings too by avoiding the need for dedicated cabling as it can be run over most commonly used protocols such as ArtNet, ACN or even the office network. Green-GO which won the 2012 Rock our World Award is fast becoming a favourite for production teams from theatre to TV studio production, stadium concerts and grand opera – in fact any live event where precise timing is essential and clear communications between directors and equipment operators is critical.

Visitors to ELC Lighting and Green-GO Communications on booth 321 will have the opportunity to see the systems in use and discuss specific user requirements directly with the technical team. And for those less familiar with lighting protocol over Ethernet, or Ethernet based communications, there will be useful guide booklets available at the show.

ELC Lighting is instrumental in André Rieu’s World Tour

Netherlands-based lighting company ELC has a history of developing networking products for the events industry, but not from the comfort of a remote laboratory. ELC’s founder Joost van Eenbergen said, “We started the company nearly twenty years ago by making the equipment we needed for live shows we were working on, and that philosophy continues to this day.”

A member of Joost’s software team, Bart van Stiphout, has been honing his skills on the recent André Rieu gig in Amsterdam. Bart was responsible for managing the extensive lighting network infrastructure, and his work in the field has led to the development of ELC’s dmXLAN v4 network management software.

André Rieu is a highly-respected violinist and conductor who performs large rock- and arena-style classical music events with his orchestra all over the world, particularly Europe and the Americas. Bart works on Rieu’s shows in Europe, designing and hooking up the Ethernet networks and then managing the system during the shows. In Amsterdam, Bart also integrated ELC’s Green-GO digital intercom system into the network, which won the PLASA awards in London and the USA when it was launched in 2011.

Bart explained, “In this show there are approximately 550 DMX-controlled fixtures, mostly moving heads!” It’s easy to see why the Ethernet network needs specialist hardware and a specialist to monitor it. What’s even more special is the specialist for the job is also one of the team responsible for ELC’s product design. No stress there then.

This leg of the tour took place in Amsterdam’s Museumsquare, with a complement of eight lighting towers in addition to the over-stage lighting rig, all connected using a mixture of ELC’s high-speed nodes, 2 into 10 DMX splitters (with RDM), and five Ethernet switches.

This gig also provided Bart with the opportunity to test the newly-released version of dmXLAN software. Joost said, “dmXLAN v4 is the tool our guys needed to do their job, so they created it themselves and we think this software is the best in the business.” Developed for use with both Windows and Mac OSX, the software is free to download from ELC’s website and can be used to configure and monitor a dmXLAN network, and also to control and test lighting fixtures connected to the network, independent of the brand of consoles and lighting fixtures used. The latest v4 version has a completely new look with many improvements, performance enhancements and new functions such as triple universe merging, new softpatch features, full RDM commands and feedback, DMX history, fixture patch importing, and the ability to export and print lists of data.

And how did the Green-GO intercom system connect into this arena-scale network? “We just needed reliable comms between the FOH control and ‘dimmer city’. So I plugged one Green-GO beltpack into a PoE switch by the desks and another into a similar port by the dimmers. Simple.” Instant communication using the lighting rig’s Ethernet network, that’s harmony.

Cost effective, reliable, over Ethernet digital studio production communications system will be on show at IBC 2013

Networking specialist ELC Lighting will be featuring the award winning Green-GO Ethernet intercom system at IBC 2013, RAI Amsterdam 13 – 17 September in Hall 11 on stand 11.D67.

Leveraging the popularity and capacity of Ethernet networking installations to distribute and manage the control and feedback data required for dimmer, automated lighting units and LED video display panels, ELC Lighting have developed the Green-GO digital communications system. Offering many of the features only previously available in expensive matrix systems, Green-GO is an intercom, cue light, show relay and text messaging system all in one package. And by simply adding outstations to the network, expandable from 2 users to over 3,000! No wonder Green-GO is fast becoming a favourite for production teams from TV studios to theatre, stadium concerts and grand opera – in fact any live event where precise timing is essential and clear communications between directors and equipment operators is critical. Visitors to stand 11.D can experience a demonstration of the Green-GO system and don’t forget to pick up a copy of the free “Green-GO Guide to Ethernet Intercom Systems.”

ELC has recently announced the completion of its range of Green-GO digital intercom products with the addition of wall panel outstations, a 12-channel 19” rack mounted multichannel unit and 4, 8, 16 and 32 channel desks. Designed to work over any powered Ethernet network, Green-GO has won innovation and ‘best product’ awards on both sides of the Atlantic since its introduction in 2011. Visitors to the stand will be able to see the new range of wall panel outstations that extend cuelight, intercom and live show relay facilities to dressing rooms and other non-performance and backstage areas.

To complete the product range, ELC offers its free ‘Green-GO online editor V2.0’ setup and management software that enables user and group details to be programmed, preferences altered and stored, external audio sources managed, 2- and 4-wire interfaces controlled and text cues entered from any connected PC or Mac. As there is no central matrix or exchange needed for the system, all outstations including beltpacks, wall panels and multichannel desks, hold duplicate copies of the entire system setup, which allows future expansion of the system simply by adding outstations or a 2- or 4-wire interface to existing analogue intercom systems.

ELC rocked their world at LDI 2012 with its Green-GO intercom system

ELC Lighting was honoured to receive the ‘Rock our World 2012’ award for their innovative intercom system at the recent LDI 2012 show in Las Vegas.

For The Netherlands based ELC Lighting team that developed the Green-GO intercom system range of products, moving into full production in January following successful launches at PLASA and LDI in 2011, the Las Vegas win was an exciting climax to a busy twelve months.

ELC Lighting’s ‘Green-GO’ digital show communications system designer Joost van Eenbergen and sales manager Silvio Cibien said that they were overwhelmed with the compliments from such an eminent group of judges that included Mike Wood. Mike summed it all up, “In all the years of the Rock our World Awards the Green-GO received the quickest agreement as an award winner that I can remember. The judges were universally enthusiastic in their praise, with Gareth Owen perhaps encapsulating the panel’s views - "This is bloody brilliant!"

ELC has built an enviable reputation for its comprehensive range of high capacity Ethernet switches, DMX/RDM connectivity products, focus remote controls, DMX recorders and sequencers. Products that are used anywhere from small halls to arena-scale venues for lighting data networks and LED display walls. Since 2011, ELC has expanded into the digital intercom business with a new range of products under the brand name ‘Green-GO’.

Green-GO was developed from customer feedback that after investing in a wide area Ethernet network, “Why can’t they be used for communications as well?” Plus saving the cost and complexity of starting over with another proprietary network of cabling, and central exchange matrix. Joost’s experience as an audio and lighting engineer, added to his knowledge of Ethernet systems came together to rethink the conventional communications system used for live performance. The result was a new concept, based on the principle that each user’s outstation has a copy of the routing and setup information usually held centrally in a communications matrix. A simple system can comprise as little as two beltpacks, connected to the same Ethernet network with Power over Ethernet. It’s a simple ‘plug and play’ system. For simplicity, there is only one outstation design, packaged in a series of formats either as a single channel beltpack or wallpanel, or multi-channel desk. The multichannel desks have the same functionality as the beltpacks, it’s just that there are more channels and some of the extra functions are available on the panel for instant access.

Green-GO can be used by two users or a maximum of 3750 users in up to 250 groups (or partylines/rings) with no degradation of the Ethernet network. Networks can be setup and managed, and text messages sent to outstations, simply and easily by using freeware software for either PC or Mac. It can work on any Ethernet network, not just a lighting network. Green-GO provides digital clarity, and wealth of features including cue lights, text messaging and show relay audio distribution.

ELC’s latest development – the GWP range of Green-GO wall panels – provides three levels of network integration: GWP-HS is a panel-mounted version of the GBP2 beltpack with direct access to 2 channels (which may be a single direct user or a group) with a headset/mic connection; GWP-SP has similar features but with an integrated loudspeaker and microphone in place of the XLR4 headset connector, and GWP is for cuelight display and acknowledgement only. The large LCD display is also a cue acknowledgement pushbutton, and has a RGB backlight and text display that provides a clear cue light warn/go and text display.

New 'Green-GO' Wall panel outstations will be launched at PLASA 2012

ELC is set to expand its award-winning Green-GO digital intercom product line at PLASA 2012

Following its successful launch of Green-GO Ethernet-based intercom and cuelight system at PLASA and LDI last year – where the system won new product awards at both shows – ELC Lighting will be showing an expanded range of Green-GO products at this year’s PLASA.

Since its initial showing at PLASA 2011, the Green-GO Communications digital intercom system over Ethernet has been adopted throughout the world, with a growing population of national distributors taking on the brand. This fully-featured digital intercom system has all the performance of a matrix-style network, but without the complexity, hardware or cost of a central matrix ‘exchange’. Each outstation mirrors a copy of the system’s complete routing and setup parameters, which eliminates the need for a matrix and has the added benefit of providing backup and automatic patching if new outstations are added or exchanged. The system senses the new element present within the network and uploads the appropriate data.

Green-GO can be used with just two basic beltpacks and a PoE Ethernet network straight from the box, or configured with multiple outstations for up to a maximum of 3750 users and up to 250 groups (or partylines/rings) with no degredation of the Ethernet network. Networks can be setup and text messages sent to outstations simply and easily by using freeware software for either PC or Mac. The brand new range of GWP wall panel outstations will be launched this year on the ELC stand, alongside the central components of Green-GO – the beltpack and multichannel desks – and system accessories including interfaces to existing analogue systems, and the Green-GO 5-port Ethernet switch.

The new GWP range of Green-GO wall panels provides three levels of network integration: GWP-HS is a panel-mounted version of the GBP2 beltpack with direct access to 2 channels (which may be a single direct user or a group) with a headset/mic connection; GWP-SP has similar features but with an integrated loudspeaker and microphone in place of the XLR4 headset connector, and GWP is for cuelight display and acknowledgement only. The large LCD display is also a cue acknowledgement pushbutton, and has a RGB backlight and text display that provides a clear cue light warn/go and text display.

ELC Lighting is also a major player in the design and manufacture of high speed network data distribution equipment for live entertainment and performance lighting installations in theatrical and TV venues, specializing in DMX, RDM, sACN and Ethernet networking. On stand 2-S15, hall 2 at PLASA 2012, ELC will be introducing dmXLAN v4, the latest version of its show management software.
The latest version of ELC's  dmXLAN v4 its show management software will be released at PLASA 2012

The free download software for PC, Mac, or iOS and Android devices allows the user to configure ELC lighting dmXLAN nodes offline or online, run macros such as ‘lamp on’ and ‘reset’ without interrupting the board operator, take control of every fixture, and start automated tests. The software also displays which universes are online, the frame-rate, channel count, channel values and source.

Visitors to ELC will also see a range of nodes, switches, test and wireless products designed specifically for distributing DMX and RDM over Ethernet using sACN and other protocols in a live entertainment environment.
